History
We have been a valued supplier of critical infrared optical components for advanced thermal imaging and other electro-optic systems for over 20 years. The company, originally Vinten Electro-Optics (VEO), was founded in 1982. In 1993, VEO was acquired by Coherent Inc. In 2007, our Leicester business unit was acquired by CVI Melles Griot and integrated into its Optics and Photonics Products business unit. We currently employ 70 people and occupies a 3,200 sq m (35,000 sq ft) facility in Whetstone, Leicester, UK.
Advanced optical fabrication and coating capabilities
CVI Melles Griot has a wide range of optical fabrication equipment and skills, as well a variety of deposition technologies and assembly capabilities. This enables the company to offer an array of optical components, including windows, lenses, prisms, filters, domes, beamsplitters and subassemblies. We have focused our development resources primarily on the creation of high durability optics to withstand the rigours of the most severe environments in defence and industrial applications.
Continuous Improvement
At the beginning of 2003, we introduced a Continuous Improvement Programme. The main features of this programme are:

- • Key Performance Indicators to monitor all major aspects of the business
- • Improved customer focus
- • Cost and lead time reduction
- • Training and development of personnel.
The CI process is driven by teams tasked with optimising specific aspects of the company’s performance.

With sales offices worldwide, CVI Melles Griot maintains close contact with its customer base worldwide. This facilitates collaboration on customers' programmes, enabling CVI Melles Griot to develop innovative, competitive solutions in support of current and future market requirements.
